The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps people buy the food they need for good health with a Lone Star Card. Benefits are deposited monthly and the amount is based on household size and income.

At a local Texas Health and Human Services office with a paper application, which you can return via mail, fax or in person
By requesting a paper application to be mailed to you by calling 2-1-1 (after selecting a language, choose Option 2)

Senior Adult Food Program

Commodities Supplemental Food Program (CSFP)

The Senior Adult Food Program, Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) is offered to senior adults, ages 60 years and older, who meet certain USDA Income Eligibility Guidelines.

Participants receive a 25–30-pound box of shelf-stable groceries and a 2-pound block of commodity cheese to supplement their diets from the High Plains Food Bank (HPFB). Contents included canned fruits, vegetables, and animal proteins. Boxes also include the following on a rotating basis: cereal and additional protein items like dry beans, peanut butter, grains, liquid milk, and dry milk. These boxes have an estimated value of $60-$70 and are provided free of charge to our clients. Each item provided to CSFP clients is intended to be a healthy addition to meals they prepare at home when other food sources are running low.

FoodNET (Nutrition for Experienced Texans) Program

The FoodNET (Nutrition for Experienced Texans) Program is offered to senior adults, ages 60 years and older, who reside at Bivins Village, Independence Village, and Northwest Village, or who are participants at Hilltop Senior Citizens Center.

FoodNET provides meals at no cost to residents and other participants. Transformation Park produces the meals and administers the program in partnership with the Area Agency on Aging of the Panhandle.

The Tillie Project

Snack Pak 4 Kids works with school counselors and grandparents to provide boxes of brand new, brand name food. Currently the program is available for grandparents raising grandchildren who are enrolled and attending school in the Amarillo Independent School District.

Participants select items from a menu or receive a pre-packed VIP box. Options include a variety of protein items, canned fruits and vegetables, snacks and staples like rice, beans and pasta.

The food is delivered to the school by volunteers during the weekly Snack Pak 4 Kids delivery. The pre-packed VIP boxes can be delivered to schools for immediate and emergency needs.

Grandparents should work with the school counselor at their child’s school. The school counselor can submit a referral form for The Tillie Project.
