Aging in Place
In-Home Care
There is a difference between home health care and home care.
-
Home health care provides skilled, short-term medical care including a visit from a nurse, physical therapy, occupational therapy, etc. which has been ordered by a doctor to treat a medical condition. These services are covered by Medicare.
-
Home care offers long-term, non-medical assistance with daily tasks such as bathing, cleaning, and companionship. These services are not covered by Medicare.
View the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services official government booklet on Medicare and Home Health Care for information on eligibility, the services covered, how to find and compare home health agencies, and your Medicare rights.
Go online to Medicare.gov to find and compare home health agencies.
